our visit in July 2010
We had a great time in Crete. Fodele is a lovely village and the villa was perfect......clean, airy and in a great location. We thoroughly enjoyed getting to know George and his wife Eva and the menu at their restaurant. We had no complaints with the villa....the kitchen was well equipped, the seating area very comfortable and the bedrooms lovely and cool. We spent a lot of time happily sitting outside in the back, soaking up the sun and listening to the goats, chickens, goats and peacocks.
Many thanks for letting us share your villa and getting to know such a beautiful part of Crete. We have already recommended it to friends and relatives. best wishes Sue

Daisy, Fodele
What a simply lovely place to spend a holiday. Everyone was so friendly and keen to make sure Jenny and I felt welcomed and well looked after! This was by far the best break I have had in many years and came back to England feeling totally relaxed and rested. The village is wonderful and i can fully understand why some would wish to return to live. The villagers were also warm and inviting. Watch out for overdosing on free oranges tho! Fodele beach and the free sunbeds were also a treat only 10 mins away and lovely food to be had at the taverna there. Got to give mention to the legendary "Smoothy" George, his lovely wife Eva and mum Maria. "Smoothy's" menu is a must for any visitor. The hospitality is excellent and the food wonderful! If you get the chance of a boat trip from Bali - it's well worth the cost. Beautiful waters, calming warm hospitality, food and wine included. Definitely an evening to remember. Final mention for Vangelis without whom we would not have seen nearly so much as we did, big THANKS. I will cherish the memories and hope to be back in the not too distant future! Christina x

Great Stay April 2010
Previous comments have covered it all really but just to re-iterate - Daisy and Fodele is a great place to stay. Watch out for the ladies in the village though, there are only so many tablecloths you can need! As we were 'pre-season' Crete was still gearing up and beaches were deserted, bliss. Roads quiet too, just as well with the Cretan driving!
You should definitely hire a car and see the area, spectacular. Smoothy George is a legend, the kids loved his sheepsmilk ice-cream and he bought apples and a machine to squash them when we enquired about apple juice. That's service for you. You must visit him if you go to Fodele.
We enjoyed rather more of Crete than we expected due to the dust cloud but must thank the neighbours and Helen and Ken and Paul and Angie (hope that's right) for all their support.
Too many highlights to mention but do try out all the coves at Bali, our favourite beaches. Do have a trip on the old national road (just like the Italian Job). Do have a glass of wine in the hot tub as the sun sets and watch out for the owls flying over. Do take earplugs if you are a city dweller - the countryside is noisy: cockerels, dogs, sheep, goats, owls of various sorts!
Do visit Mandarin Grove, it's a lovely place to stay. And say hi to George from the Gudd family.

Daisy holiday : October 2009
Thank you so much for such a lovely holiday in Daisy. We had a wonderful time and were so pleased with everything.
The accommodation was perfect.
We were so lucky with the weather too and came home feeling relaxed and happy and tanned !
It was so nice to be in a "real" working Greek village and we will certainly be recommending Daisy to our friends. Thank you again Martin and Glenys

September 2009 in Fodele
This is just a wee messgage to let you know how much we enjoyed Daisy and Fodele, which is a lovely village with lovely friendly people. We were very comfortable in Daisy ; the facilities were excellent - particularly the washing machine which was a godsend, given our miserly 15 kilo baggage allowance from Thomas Cook.
We did a bit of cooking in Daisy and the full size cooker came into its own. We even bought some fresh fish from Carrefour, gutting and filleting them ourselves. We also had some fine meals at both Georges' places - Smoothy and Big - and at the Platinos taverna at the end of the square whers Sula was such a generous hostess - we even got complementary puddings and raki each time as we did at Smoothie's.
Helen told us about the fundraising for the monastery and we had a superb time. This seemed to get us even more accepted by the locals and thereafter Wilson and I were allowed to sit on the old mens' bench with the seniors !! Muriel made a habit of feeding the hens in the orange grove at the front of Daisy each morning with the previous day's leftover bread, to the extent that every time we opened Daisy's front door, they all came running ! For our final meal on our last night, Eva and her mother did us a special home made Moussaka, which was absolutely wonderful and the best we have ever tasted and very good of them to take the trouble.
Once again Peter and Ann, thank you for all your kind attention to us from the start, we do appreciate good "old fashioned" service and you certainly provided that ! With very best wishes.
Muriel,Ian, Carol and Wilson
